It spent me 2 days to update my M510C. = =+
Few days ago it had Ubuntu 7.10 updated 8.04 and Windows XP SP2 NCKU version.
Yes, a dual OS laptop.
On 4/23, the latest Ubuntu 9.04 released.
I installed it in my HP dv3007 in my room on Monday.
Since not being so busy on projects, I though I could update my working computer.
So there it came.
On Tuesday I checked and made some backups.
Hmmm? Where was the Ubuntu 9.04 Desktop CD?
It was in my room. = =
So, tomorrow~
Wednesday, I brought the CD and put it into the CD-ROM.
Error reading boot CD = =
What problem now?
After testing 2 CD(8.10 and 9.04), I gave up to install from CD.
I think the CD-ROM may be malfunction...
Let's try online updates!
After online updates to 8.10, the old driver could not work well.
It ran in only Ubuntu low-graphic mode.
The original 7.10 version had no good support on ATI graphic cards.
I installed another open source driver fglrx.
At that time I thought it may be okay to continue and I kept on updating to 9.04.
However, after rebooting to finish updating, I couldn't even see the login menu.
Master Google told me some possible solutions.
Some said you have to remove fglrx.
But I can't login now QQ.
I've tried to login with the recovery mode, too.
Finally I decided to use the last method on the list.
Redo from start! In other words, 砍掉重練!
Since I have driver problem, CD-ROM problem, I need to install by some other method.
My computer had dual OS and I can use this advantage.
First I fixed the MBR to boot from Windows XP only.
I found the MbrFix program to overwrite the GRUB.
Later I delete the Ubuntu partition and formatted as NTFS drive.
I used Norton Partition Magic to merge the ext3 partition and swap space.
Finally I used wubi to install Ubuntu inside Windows.
Thanks for those who wrote the detail instructions for all of us.
I can use Ubuntu and Windows now, again.
Although it is not a native OS, it is fine.
Although I can not use the new ext4 partition, it is good now.
What's the next time I update my system?
Maybe 9.10 I think. :p
Now I have to put my previous work back~
